General Information
Changing Hearts is a unique, Christian organization providing spiritual, emotional and behavorial intervention for families and their adopted daughters (ages 6-16) who suffer with emotional and behavioral challenges. Generally, these girls have been diagnosed with a type of emotional disorder that prevents them from having a loving relationship with their families. A high percentage of the girls enrolled in our ministry school have been adopted - either internationally or domestically. Many of the girls have experienced severe trauma and think life is "all about them." Our prayer for your daughter, is that with time spent in the ministry school, she will have a larger worldview and realize that it's not "all about her." What it is about is a heart-to-heart connection with Jesus, her family, herself and with life.If inadequately informed about their daughter's life before adoption, parents often find it difficult to understand and handle their daughter's emotional behavior, and struggle to separate the child from her behaviors. Mutual hurt and confusion between parent and child develops, perpetuating a cycle of unhealthy communication and interaction. The daughter's inability to trust her parents intensifies and any trust becomes virtually non-existent. Without intensive spiritual and emotional intervention, the potentially irreparable cycle of abuse and/or neglect continues to the next generation between the daughter and her own children.
A safe haven for these girls, Changing Hearts exists to help daughters learn to develop and trust relationships, so that she is able to place her heart into her parent's hands for safe-keeping. We are committed to help each family define boundaries, seek healthy solutions, and become the family God intends them to be.
Emotional and Behavioral Challenges might look like:
- Oppositionally defiant
- Non-accepting of limits
- Depressed/withdrawn
- Constant challenging of adult authority
- Low self-esteem
- A sense of hopelessness or emptiness
- Disorganized
- Poor academic achievements
- A sense of entitlement
- The "it's all about me" syndrome
- Lack of empathy toward others
Our hope lies in the Lord Jesus Christ and His healing power. We at Changing Hearts make ourselves available to Him through the training that He has provided. Why some families heal and some don't is a mystery that only our Lord knows, and we rest in His infinite wisdom.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."
- Isaiah 53:5
